This site for Napanoch, NY, began with a search to learn more about the history of our house on State Route 55. One neighbor said it used to be a gas station, while a random passerby told us the house had been moved here, possibly during construction of the reservoir. As I continued to search online, I found that so much of the history of this hamlet - and other parts of Wawarsing - seemed to be lost or confined to a relatively small number of local experts sharing stories.
One incredible resource, created by the late William Winters, was recently erased from the internet when Tripod.com, where it was hosted, shut down in April 2026. It was a time capsule and an extensive archive featuring Napanoch and the surrounding area. Decades of historical research, commentary, and artwork just vanished overnight.
That discovery led me to look beyond the history of my own house and begin creating an online resource dedicated to preserving Napanoch’s history. My goal is also to use this website to support local businesses and the community as a whole. This Godaddy template is just a temporary home. Currently working on a new Napanoch NY website as of August 2026.
